Festive Contemplation

The following designs are all available as patterns
William Morris Floral Sampler - 163cm x 163cm (64in x 64in)

This 13-block sampler quilt is set on point and bordered by an ornate design.
The blocks are my interpretation of the many flowers and patterns that can be
found on some of the wallpapers and cottons designed by Morris & Co.
Strawberry Thief - 42" x 51" (107cm x 130cm)

This design is influenced by William Morris’ Strawberry Thief design c1883.
My creation is far more simplistic, but lends itself to the very popular designs
of the Victorian era.
Morris Revisited - 64" X 64" (165cm x 165cm)

Inspiration for this quilt comes from the style associated with the Arts & Crafts
movement. The centre panel was inspired by one of William Morris’s partners, John
Dearle. One of the floral blocks can be found on an original Morris & Co fabric
panel on display in the Art Gallery of South Australia.
Morris in my Garden - 76" x 76" (194cm x 194cm)

This quilt came about because of the stash of muted William Morris fabrics that
I had accumulated! The medallion style quilt has a central panel of roses spilling
out of an urn from my front garden (Mind you the roses don’t grow in the urn!).
Morris Cushions - 45cm cushions

These cushions are appliquéd in the style of Morris and Company furnishings.
3 different patterns will be provided which include my adaptation of the
‘Strawberry Thief’, the ‘Dove and Rose’ and ‘Brer Rabbit’.
Coffee with William Morris - 172cm X 138cm (68" X 54")

‘Coffee with William Morris’ came about over a cup of coffee on Christmas Day
2002. My quilt includes elements of the ‘Brompton’ design on the mug and of the
‘Rose’ wallpaper from Morris c. 1883. It is recorded that William Morris was
influenced by a 16th century Venetian silk and gold brocade when he was designing
the "Rose’ wallpaper
Medieval Morris 153cm X 183cm (60" X 72")

This row by row quilt was influenced by some of the more ‘gothic’ designs that
William Morris produced and includes my adaptation of the ‘Dragon and Peacock’
curtain fabric which can be see in the Art Gallery of South Australia and also
for six months of the year in the dining room at Carrick Hill.
Woven Verdure 62" x 70" (158cm x 178cm)

Inspiration for this appliquéd quilt came from a black and white 2" x 3" photo
of a carpet designed by William Morris, Bellflowers.c.1880 and woven by the
Wilton Royal Carpet works.
THIS QUILT IS PRESUMED STOLEN. IT WENT MISSING BY REGISTERED MAIL THROUGH THE
AUSTRALIA POST SYSTEM IN 2002.
